About a few weeks ago, I had an interesting conversation with a good friend of mine about the New Kindle Fire. She was curious and was wondering whether she should buy it. At $49 a piece is the New Kindle Fire definitely very tempting and almost impossible to resist. However, is it really a powerful tablet to help fulfill your daily needs both work and fun?
I don’t own the New Kindle Fire but I do own a Kindle Fire HD (released 2013). These two tablets have had the same screen size (7 inch) and comparable specifications. To be very honest, I have had my own share of issues with the Kindle Fire HD from heating up right after startup, shutting down (usually) during games, to the most common issue, freezing during navigating and so on.
Some of those issues have been solved with updates but some simply keep on coming back and they are quite annoying. So, I would not be buying the New Kindle Fire as you shouldn’t be either if you want to use the New Kindle Fire as your main tablet for a heavy-duty work. Then again, I won’t be using one from other brands with similar price and specifications.
Having said that, you should buy the New Kindle Fire to get your daily things done, such as browsing the internet, enjoying your photo’s, sending and reading emails, and for fun purposes. You can get a lot more fun with your New Kindle Fire if/when you are a member of Amazon Prime as you can take a full advantage of the followings on your New Kindle Fire:
1. Read your (interactive) Kindle magazines
There are endless magazines, newspapers and blogs that you can enjoy on your New Kindle Fire. I prefer to read interactive Kindle magazines as you can enjoy interactive content, including images, slides, videos and audio’s within the magazines, even when you are not wirelessly connected.
The O, The Oprah Magazine and Dr. Oz The Good Life are my newest favorite interactive Kindle magazines on my Kindle Fire because they offer a lot of useful information on lifestyle and health, respectively.
2. Watch your favorite shows with Prime Video
Amazon keeps adding great movies, video shorts and TV shows that you can enjoy on your New Kindle Fire. Original and exclusive TV shows, like Transparent, Hand of God and The Man In The High Castle are included with Amazon Prime.
You can also buy or rent new release movies, like Trainwreck, Terminator: Genisys, The Man From U.N.C.L.E. and latest TV shows, like American Horror Story, Doctor Who, Fargo, and enjoy them right on your New Kindle Fire as well.
3. Read your favorite Kindle books
Due to its great reading experience and not to mention eyestrain, it is so much better to do some heavy reading on a Kindle, Kindle Paperwhite or Kindle Voyage. You can, however, do some fun reading, such as reading Kindle books with colorful images or in my case, Kindle books with recipes on your New Kindle Fire.
Let me remind you that as a Prime member you can choose one Kindle First Book absolutely for free every single month, which you can enjoy on both your Kindle and New Kindle Fire.
4. Listen to your favorite music with Prime Music
Compared to Spotify and or Apple Music, Prime Music is just a tiny music streaming service and it does’t have a HUGE music collection yet, but it is included with Amazon Prime. So, it is by all means still worth exploring.
If you are into Hello by Adele with lyrics included, you can enjoy it on your online Amazon Music Library, your smartphone using the Amazon Music app, and of course on your New Kindle Fire.
5. Listen to your favorite audiobooks
If you are a member of Audible you can enjoy your audiobooks and Whispersync for Voice-ready titles on your smartphone using the Audible app. In addition, you can enjoy those audiobooks and titles on your New Kindle Fire.
I, myself love listening to The New York Times audio digest on my Kindle Fire – like I would on a radio – while preparing breakfast or doing some exercises at home.
6. Play your favorite games
I am not exactly a gamer type of person but I do occasionally play Ninja Rush, and Buttons and Scissors on my Kindle Fire. So, I am not sure whether the New Kindle Fire is also capable of playing games that require a very high speed of processor.
7. Browse the Amazon Shop
If you, like I do, love to shop on Amazon.com or on your smartphone using the Amazon app, you can also shop or simply browse both physical and digital products on Amazon on your New Kindle Fire.
You can also view the daily Offers on your New Kindle Fire. Just tap an offer that you are interested in, and you will be promptly directed to the Amazon Shop. So, you won’t miss great offers and other deals on Amazon.
